Welp...that was a show. I can't see it getting another season, but it desperately needs fleshing out. Trying to combine an isekai with a BL is not a bad idea (Go read Scum Villain's Self-Saving System by MXTX), but this ended up short-changing both genres and all the characters. As a starving yaoi fangirl, I'm always hunting for more BL anime, but this did nothing to satisfy me on that front.
Perhaps the manga is better paced - I'm going to check it out now - but this anime was shallow and poorly paced. Nothing felt very important. All the "issues" were solved in an episode

I...liked it. Did not love it. Everything about it was solid - characters, art, voice acting, pacing - but not the main romance plot, which was kind of the point of watching it. I don't care that it was cliché to the point of ridiculous, not really, because all romances are to some degree. But there was nothing special or fresh about how those cliches were used here, and there was not enough chemistry between the main couple to get me very invested. Fun, cute, sweet, and sassy, with a side of occasional violence - perfect! Others have gone over the details of this show, so I'm just going to say I loved it. Watching this trio of misfits becoming a real family in the most bumbling but sweet way (while taking out spies and assassins and overly-protective brothers) is lots of fun and heartwarming as well.
Twilight/Loid (real name unknown) is wonderfully genuine as a long-time loner with no idea how to be a part of a family but you can see him gradually falling into the trap of caring for them. Yor is delightfully airheaded but ...

This anime had great potential. I loved the art style, the characters, the mood, and tone. I even liked the slower pacing of it. The story was really shaping up to something big - like, seriously big. Some kind of epic battle is starting, half the important characters are damaged, dead, or missing. It's time for the showdown between the bad guys and the even-more-bad guys!
But...it ends there. Like - check MAL, check other sites, check the reviews - seriously? It ends in the middle of a damned battle?! It didn't even feel like a deliberate cliffhanger-type ending. It felt like the animators just said, ...

If you're fine with this being an animix rather than fully animated, this one is a nice little story. It actually took it's time and established the story then followed it through to a satisfying ending, unlike many OVAs I've seen that just leave out most of the story for the sake of sex scenes and end up making almost no sense and without giving you any sense of who the characters are. It felt more like a romance than porn and that was fine with me.
The seme was hot and amazingly considerate, the uke was cute and got over his reservations in a believable ... |
