Preliminary (70/? chp)
As part of the "brooding MC harem romcom" genre, 'Let Me Be Single In Peace!' is not the most boring thing on earth. However, it is consistently slightly annoying. The series has its strong moments and can manage to keep you engaged. However, it always and invariably goes back to a standard, boring formula.

What does the usual formula look like?

The main character, Nanamura, brags about being a loner. Yes, that's right, he brags about being a loner as if it's something to look up to. This isn't an intentional character flaw, as the main character sometimes brags about being a loner to the reader. If ...

Meikyuu no Ou (Manga) add
Preliminary (15/20 chp)
Simple, but great nonetheless. It's that typical setting of a videogame world with a labyrinth being explored by adventurers. However, this time, it's a minotaur that managed to gain sentience and the ability to level up. His one goal: Follow his instinct to fight and tear strong enemies apart.

It's a strange kind of underdog story. The minotaur has to face off against humans who are familiar with the labyrinth and have formulated sophisticated plans in navigating it. Through the journey, the minotaur starts to develop beyond just his base instincts and learns how to feed his penchant for violence more intelligently. It's an entertaining read ...

Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (30/? chp)
The manga is pure tragedy porn and self pity. This fact alone ensures that the manga will probably not appeal to most people. Furthermore, at the time of this review, it is unclear whether it will evolve out of being tragedy porn. Part of me hopes that it doesn't, since I think this aspect and its execution make the story unique.

Despite the terribly written characters, one can enjoy the story if you view it from a certain perspective. For example, I like to consider that the main character's self pity is intentionally written as part of her flaws. Sadly, I cannot do the same to ...

Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (75/? chp)
I reviewed this before at 30 chapters and my assessment of those still holds, so I will leave it below and explain what changed since then:

----------------- REVIEW AT 30 CHAPTERS:------------------------
"I've read 30 chapters and I feel addicted. I've been looking for any similar stories just to get my fix but I can't find any. I found this manga with the tags "Romance" and "School Life" but so far, I would say more relevant tags would be "Thriller" or "Psychological Horror". The situation the characters find themselves in makes me feel nauseous. It feels more like a twist on the usual rom-com than it is actually ...

I'm not one to drag politics into everything, but ACCA is fair game because it is a clear attempt at political commentary. If you're trying to make political commentary, I feel like it's fair if I judge the message. The problem is that Japan is completely out of touch with the "global zeitgeist" that political commentary in media feels almost like a description of a fictional world. In this anime, this also seems to be the case. A lot of people didn't even spot the political commentary because it was so out-of-touch with reality. In fact, I didn't even realize ACCA to contain political commentary ...

Holyland (Manga) add
Preliminary (134/182 chp)
This review is still a stopgap because I haven't finished the manga. However, I feel like I have read enough to at least write THIS review. Holyland gives me what it promises. A martial arts, action, psychological drama. Yuu is a wimp who feels out of place at home and school. As he desperately tries to carve out a place for himself, he goes into the city at night and gets picked on by delinquents, whom he beats into submission.

The unique feeling of desperation is what sets this manga apart. Yuu isn't on a massive crusade against evil. He is merely an insecure, wimpy student ...

Tower Dungeon (Manga) add
Mixed Feelings
FunnyFunny
Preliminary (23/? chp)
I fucking hate elves. I especially hate elves in anime/manga. They are a self-insert fantasy race that almost never adds anything interesting to the story. They live long, they are proficient at most things, they look young, they are canonically hot (in most media), their only weird characteristic is pointy ears. Otherwise, they are just self-insert overpowered humans. Besides Frieren and some other examples outside of anime, they never add anything interesting to the story.

Now that the rant is over, Tower Dungeon does not have elves. That already places it above 5 for me. The artwork is honestly spectacular. Combined with the monsters and a ...

I'm a sucker for psychological dramas that are rife with feelings of disgust. Therefore, I might just have a bias for this type of story. "Is This Family Worth Keeping?" is a manga centered around domestic abuse. Not physical abuse, but a wife emotionally abusing her husband. The side characters, even if they are nice, also act according to an aspect of self-interest. This part is pretty realistic. What is unrealistic, however, is reaction of the husband to the initial emotional abuse. I would like to feel that the husband would put up more of a resistance, at least for the sake of his daughter.

I ...

Have you seen that meme video of Spy from TF2 saying the n-word?

This entire manga pretty much is that video repeated over and over. The antagonists figure out the MC's quadruple 6D recursive bluff, but actually that was a trap to lead them into his sixtuple 7D hyperbluff! It gets really absurd and unrealistic when no matter what happens, we know the MC came up with a 67-layered bluff in the 1 second after the game was explained. It was believable in the first few games, but it went too far.

Why is it an 8? Well, besides the first few games, I also enjoyed the ...

The review for Goodnight Punpun should be much shorter than what MAL allows. The characters are great. They feel real, act real and talk like they are real. The artstyle is phenomenal, which is what pushes this from a 9 to a 10. I don't mean in the sense of "oh wow the drawings are so pretty." I mean that the drawing style has a purpose, and it achieve its purposes very well.

As for the story, my complaint is that it takes an insanely long time to get anywhere important. However, the parts near the end are phenomenal. If you like psychological dramas where you ...
