An extremely obscure, and short, guide manga by Toriyama. Reading like a youtube poop or newgrounds video circa Shonen Jump 1980s, this poo joke heavy instruction manual sadly doesn't do a great job at teaching readers how to draw manga. What it does do is effectively communicate Toriyama's emotions regarding drawing manga. A parallels can be drawn to Araki's How to Draw Manga, where Araki takes an almost scientific approach, driven by writing, rather than "manga". In this, Toriyama actually draws a manga. Akira Toriyama is a talented mangaka who knows how to create a fun manga about manga itself. While it’s clearly not aimed at professionals—and is more suited for a younger or teenage audience
I still had a great time reading it. The manga offers interesting insights into Toriyama’s general workflow and creative process, making it especially enjoyable for readers who are curious about how manga are made. As a bonus, it’s surprisingly motivating for anyone who wants to start creating their own manga. That said, some of the information may feel a bit outdated, especially since many modern mangaka no longer work traditionally. |
