By the way... try the Buddycheck app with that new guy you're trying to reach out to. It might be a good way to get you both together going through it all and reigniting whatever faith he might've lost or whatever. At the very least, if anything, it should be a good way to bond. Okay, well that's good! I stand by the notion a good story can still be enjoyed even with slight spoilers! It's about the journey, you know!

But I'm the same way. A good narrative is still satisfying to go through even if you might "know" some things that might happen!

I mean, now that you mention it, I guess perversion is kinda rampant even when you're not looking for it! I have a few animes that I do like watching but they still had throw in those pAnTy SHotS for no reason which only ruin it. At least it's not as egregious as something like "Agent Aika"; I had a friend who was obsessed with girls with guns fanservice crap like that. "Panties: the anime" and the entire anime was just an EXCUSE for those. (seriously, look it up, it's every single shot)

But I don't mind perversion if it serves a point. One of my favorite series is Prison School, one of the most offensively blatant examples, and who revels in its absurdity and gratuity for comedic effect. I love it, haha. But it also has great characters and comedy and so it fits.
There's a big difference between that and... Agent Aika.

This is also the best place to read Berserk online. Thankfully you don't have the godawful fansubs I used to have when I tried to start it back in 2010. Bad translations can ruin any good series!


Haha, you talk like old times like you grew up with the old internet like me! Is your profile age not correct? What last bastions of forums and chat rooms did YOU get to use growing up? They were all gone by that point for me!

But yeah, everything is just bite-sized now. FB is for boomers and just about group chats with strangers (basically farming reactions) and twitter (which do I have and still use) doesn't really allow for anything in-depth and mostly just a bulletin board. At least the censorship has quieted down. I'd never have used it prior to 2022. And Youtube is just for watching videos! And comments get regularly censored there, so.... yeah.

I'd love to share my AMVs! Thanks for showing interest! I honestly think you'd laugh at some of the backstory with a lot of the ones I made, but I'll get to that another time. Basically I just made them as a fan and I always loved sharing them with other fans! Funny enough I have a Speed Grapher one but that'll probably be spoilers.
AMVs are like.. the anime/characters you love boiled down to the purest elements. You know, experience everything I loved about Speed Grapher in a 4 minute song, kind of thing.

Some people just use random clips to match, which can be fun depending on the song but aren't really memorable. I love making a story or tying it into the song or having the anime AND song work in tandem. Do a character profile, tell the story of the anime, or hell, you can even make a whole NEW story with existing footage if you're creative enough! Imagination is your only limit!
I haven't edited in years though. I love WMM on XP and.. I can't get into any other editor, haha. I only have one video idea I never got out but most of my others, I did!

I got banned on youtube though so all those uploads are gone, I'll have to upload and link them for you, but I will if you're curious! Another time though!

Nah, I think things are getting better in America currently, but it was absolute hell from 20-24 for me in my State. I'm seeing the tight ball off globalist control across the planet slowly being unwound but there's a lot more cleanup to do.

I'm glad that inspired you then! I know a lot of people (ironically mostly women) who always seem to put off going back to add/change things, then the longer they do, the harder it gets, and then they just never do it. I notice that a lot, actually! Good to break that habit!

I know a lot of people also use aniilist or whatever, but I like the community aspect of this site more than the anime listing. I don't get much use out of the latter, but you can tell from profile comments, I definitely like talking with people here! A lot of people are normies who only rate things (or care about ratings) with 10s or 1s, but there are plenty of other people not like that too! Never know how you'll click with anybody and some truly great conversations (and connections, personally) have stemmed from me talking on this site. I actually met a longtime girlfriend of 5 years here. Unfortunately though, if you want bluntness, I'm kind of reeling from that specifically right now...

It's always nice to have a great conversation though! Since forums aren't really a thing anymore either (and social media is the worst to actually MEET people, this is the best way for me honestly. Just be in a place you'd naturally want to be and you'll naturally meet people you click with!)

Thanks for the invitation about watching stuff! Honestly... there's nothing I enjoy more than watching something WITH someone and/or talking about it with someone. I mean... I can do it on my own but I always just WANT to share or something. What's a y/n?? Haha, I have no clue! Honestly, I don't side with characters based on gender or anything like that. Good characters are good, bad ones are bad, and to be frank, I can get into ANYTHING if the story resonates with me... and usually all it really takes it just "Wow, someone put thought into this and it has a story to tell!"

I hate spectacle, be it gore, fanservice, virtue signaling values, whatever; stuff that exists for no purpose than to titilate. A good story can be anything but it HAS to have a point and any further thought/details put into it is only icing that makes the cake sweeter!
This could be anything, western animation, kid animation, anime, games, movies, books, etc. I really only care about that!

Haha, well, Speed Grapher isn't exactly dystopian in a literal sense, but maybe morally so. 1984 isn't too bad of a comparison. I also found that book at a yard sale and was gonna read it, but I have a lot of books/manga that take me forever to get to! Only Berserk is something I can read right away! I'm just not much of a reader.

I really wanted to check it out in 2020-2024, when it felt like were living in 1984, but one day! I'd say Europe and especially England, particularly right now might as well be 1984, so there's that. Orwell also wrote Animal Farm, which I'm also now curious about after the debacle of the latest flawed adaptation that tried to rewrite the book's original themes from being anti-Communism to anti-capitalism and completely missing the point. Guy was ahead of his time.

Hellsing Ultimate is fine in English or Japanese, but I prefer it in Japanese. It's great though. That'll really scratch your horror itch AND be fun to watch. Honestly, that series has literally no business being as good as it is! :P

Is your friend a real life one or online? Sounds like you two watch anime a lot together in any case! Honestly, with shows like BS (fitting abbreviation if you ask me), I view them as "fad" animes. There's always some of these each season, that everyone is talking about, everyone says are amazing, etc, and personally... I've never been impressed by them. Don't kill yourself to watch or even enjoy them. Honestly, there is NOTHING wrong with dropping something after even one episode! Time is valuable! Just watch whatever YOU like, who cares what other people think!

That's interesting Speed Grapher of anything caught your eye! It's not exactly horror, and don't view me as a normie because of this take or anything, but... it's better in dubbed. It's kinda dry in Japanese and way more enjoyable in English. Something to keep in mind. At least for me. It's literally like the only anime I'd ever say such a thing!

THIS sucker might be interesting to you! Unfortunately it's only 4 episodes (just the first two chapters, but it's there). A group flat out just decided to do a full on motion comic of Berserk, sick of the failed adaptations and I think they did a really good job. This is your only chance to WATCH the first two chapters!
Unfortunately, they too quit and that's all there, but it's there!

(There is ONE issue though, and it's one I still recommend reading chapter 1 for. They ABRIDGE the very first page of chapter 1, and there's actually a pretty important point to that scene. This is a fan divide where some people view it as pointless, out of character, and I fundamentally disagree with that. It even pays off much later in the manga. Apart from THAT though, it's solid! Check it out! The extra chapters/episodes in this playlist I don't know the creators, nor watched them, so I can't vouch for the quality. The original team only did the first 4 episodes/2 chapters)

Haha, Beast Stars is something I could never get into! Is it totally new to you or has it been on your radar? Gonna be honest... I hate furry-shit and that's all it looks like! I can't stomach the aesthetic!

By the way, save this, for that guy, if you like his stuff, this is a playlist you'll be coming back to. I think you might even find his anime adaptations video quite interesting too. But if you want to gauge for yourself, this worked for me, watch episode 1 of the 97 anime AND read chapter 1 of the manga together. That'll highlight better than anything what most anime adaptations are to the source material.
The decision for me was clear after that, but yeah, keep in mind 97 is probably the least horror of anything you can possibly watch, if that's why you're watching!

I always highly recommend Berserk to anybody! Just keep in mind it's a flowing long-running narrative and it's NOT straight on horror. It's a character tragedy and more of an action drama than anything. So don't go in thinking it's going to be spectacle, but if you like a great existential story about the struggle of humanity that pulls no punches, then it's for you.

This is one of the best Berserk youtubers, and his introduction to the series (first 10 minutes or so) is a great introduction, I feel. If this sounds interesting to you, then give it a go :) Unfortunately you'll have to do manga. There is no complete or even GREAT anime of it. That really captures anything about it.

By the way, I see you have a specific Tomie anime (just the two episodes from the special) on your anime list.

I've never read his work, but someone put me on to it so I decided to go through it. I hope it's leading towards something, but it is still a good anthology sort of series with a recurring theme and some continuity. I'm intrigued, let's say that.

But I'm gonna be honest, if it doesn't have pay offs for a lot of its obvious setups, I will be disappointed. I like linear narratives and the like, but if you want to read something fucked up, it's worth checking out, haha. I do like dark, twisted stuff
