The Castlevania games are standalone at least the ones that I've played.
I think this is part of the reason I struggle getting into Square games in particular. Is that I started playing them AFTER getting into JRPGs with Shin Megami Tensei/Persona. I would play a Square game like FF10 or Chrono Trigger end up thinking something along the lines "I mean this is alright but not as cool or fun as Shin Megami Tensei" or "What's so special special about this? It's kind of boring and generic". In the past I would sometimes exaggerate just how much I dislike these games but in reality there just not for me and I do recognize there are good games. I just uh don't like them or find fun to play. Therefore I just don't have much interest in playing more or seeking out those experiences. Although I have liked some Square games to be clear. And I often given the company many chances thinking "maybe this is the one I'll love!". I do recognize it is a bit weird being a huge JRPG lover and not caring or liking what is arguably the biggest/innovative JRPG studio. But the games and ones I tried just didn't click with me or blow me away like there reputations led me to believe they would. I guess that's another thing with me I play these game expecting they will blow my mind and live up to the hype and they just never do. Because in mind they don't even come close to being as good as Shin Megami Tensei or Persona.
The list I made was mostly for fun and shouldn't be taken 100% too seriously. I can and will most likely change my mind in some spots. Although the top 20 and bottom 20 I feel more certain on. Anyway uh sorry for the ulcers and having um completely opposite tastes I guess. But hopefully this explanation helps you understand my perspective a bit better. Also I have Three Houses lower because I just like Echoes and other Fire Emblem games that much more hehe...
We have?? Damn...oops XD Yeah, you should give it a shot. Symphony of the Night, the GBA trilogy and the DS trilogy are huge recommendation if you like the metroidvania gameplay plus it has RPG elements too which is cool.
