Yes I have heard about some of those stories from the past, but never really look too much into them. Since it seems a lot of historical events always have people adding extra info to the stories whether true or not. How do you feel about them? π€
Hmmm so back when 9/11 first happened I was attending college, but I remember it being one of my days off. I woke up in the morning and could my mom and the other room in somewhat of a panic from what she was seen on tv. So I went into a room and watched the news unfold. I remember my dad had jury duty that day and had to come back home because of what had happened. As far as what anime I was watching? Gosh if I were to guess maybe perhaps the Tenchi series. π―
It's all good, no hurry on the reply or watching the recommendations. I was just curious if one had caught your attention yet. They are just so many anime to choose from these days it can be pretty overwhelming so I totally get it. π±
Gotcha! Well it seems like at least I've been able to find some that you haven't heard of yet. So do you have any idea of which one you may end up starting first out of my recommendations? I am waiting with anticipation! π
Okay cool, so it looks like I found some you haven't heard of then. π₯³ Off the top of my head I did think of two others that you may enjoy, especially if you like the whole magical girls genre:
Hahaha! I guess I did deserve that right? Sorry about that, I was online yesterday but I didn't reply much to comments, I got distracted. π Okay so I compiled a list here, it contains different genres of anime with different themes and feels. So hopefully you'll be able to find something here that you like:
Record of Lodoss War
Flame of Recca
Candy Candy
Tekkaman Blade
Saint Tail
Vampire Hunter D
Wedding Peach
Guyver Bio Booster
Magical Fairy Persia
Galaxy Express 999
Bubblegum Crisis 2040
Demon City Shinjoku
Mahou no Star Magical Emi
Hyper Dolls
Sorcerer Hunters
Shaumatic Princess
You're Under Arrest
Lily Cat
Pop Idol Eriko
Robot Carnival
Mahou no Angel Sweet Mint
I think out of all these you will like Record of Lodoss War and Galaxy Express 999 the most.
I definitely know where you're coming from with that! Sometimes you happen to come across random amvs on YouTube and you just can't say no to how appealing some of the anime in them are, I find it frustrating sometimes when the content creators don't put where the anime is from. π
Cool! Can't remember if you told me this in the past, but what kind of career are you hoping to have someday?
It's all good! No worries. As for more recommendations, you may enjoy another anime called Super Gals. This one isn't quite as old, only coming out in the early 2000s, but it's got some pretty fun Street Smart style of humor. π€£
Okay so after thinking about it for a bit and looking at the type of anime you have already seen, and getting a bit of inspiration from your profile layout. You may enjoy an anime called Samurai Pizza Cats. It definitely leans on the absurd comedy aspect, while having some decent action scenes as well. Not sure if you're into dubbed anime or not, but the one for this particular series amps up The comedy to 11, but in a good way. Makes a ton of Pop culture references that aren't in the original Japanese version. Either way I think you'll like it. π
Hmmm I think you will enjoy a lot of anime that are on my favorites list, however it depends on the type of genre that you were into. What type of anime do you usually like and maybe I can recommend you something from that era? π€
Sorry about the late response time. Unfortunately I had the stomach flu over the weekend. π
Hahaha! Yes I remember those kind of dances, and even the attire that would go with them. I will say not many people actually dress like that, at least not with the crowd I knew. I got a feeling that style was a lot more popular in places like New York and whatnot. Since I live in a more rural part of the United states. RAWR did have its place, though it wasn't really something I was personally into. One aspect that you might find interesting about the '80s and '90s that I don't hear a lot of people talking about, is that whenever we thought something was cool we would say it was "bad." No not rad, but "bad." π€£
Hahaha! In my defense I didn't intentionally want to wear a mohawk, I was having one of my family members Buzz my hair and they actually did a bit too much close to the top, so I just kind of ran with it and had them shave a little more off so it resembled a tall mohawk. Thankfully it was the only time in my life that I ever had one. π€£ Yeah you should definitely check out more from that era, the '80s really were a weird time in anime, they definitely like doing their own thing.
As to answer your question about studded pants. As far as I know yes that is where they derived from. So it is kind of hard to say sometimes because there may have been some other celebrities back then that had them on before, but I think that's where the popularity derived. π€
You actually do have a good valid point there when it comes to older anime. I found out a lot of them, in particular ones from the 80s kind of just wanted to make their own story, even if it didn't gel all that good in the long run. I've heard some individuals say this has turned them off to certain series from that era, depending on what the genre is of course. π€ Sometimes I just try to create my own canon in my head that makes sense, even if the anime doesn't. Hahaha! π€£ Cowboy Bebop was a stellar series though, still hasn't been another anime quite like it.
Hmmm no unfortunately I was never one of those dudes. π Back when I was in my youth I usually would slick my hair back with gel or have it comb to the side. However I did once get daring and wore a mohawk, not a colored one though so it wasn't that special. Hahaha! Come to think of it I don't think I knew anybody that was like that, though I do recall seeing some bands back in the day where they looked very very emo. π―
Yeah I was noticing that, a lot of the anime that you are currently watching was in the early 2000s or back further, which was before your time. What would you say is your favorite retro anime?
As far as X-Files goes, it was a really interesting time for television. A lot of people still didn't have cable at the time, so you had to watch the basic regular channels. And for some reason UFO and aliens were a really big thing back then. Along with shows like Unsolved Mysteries. I think it had to do a lot with the fact that shows like Star Trek the Next Generation we're so big. π€
That being said, are you by chance a fan of The X-Files?

Here is the intro as well, as you can see the anime doesn't take itself seriously in the slightest! π
