It's hard to really give this a true review, but I'll give it a shot.
I was interested to read something short and found this from Hayashida so I was like sure, why not. About 5 chapters in I looked a bit more into it to realize it was an adaptation of an Atlus game from 1999 and followed the story pretty closely.
I personally did enjoy most of this manga, as the only other reviewer mentioned, the story is quite convoluted at times as it tries to fit a lot of ideas and themes into only THREE volumes. It at times felt very rushed, and

never stayed in one area for too long, many cool characters are introduced but not much is ever really done with them outside of literally 6 characters (maybe 7 if you count the boss/dad). However, overall, it was a fun read. The story and ideas were really enjoyable, the art is just fantastic (obviously) and the character designs were really fun (and look so much cooler than the game).
My main two gripes with this come from the ending, and the confusion I felt trying to understand it at times. The ending was absolutely rushed, the gap was interesting and we only really see the conclusion without seeing the true climax. I mean, there was a climax but it felt like it was going to go a bit higher. I guess the climax was just the bond of the two instead of "the fight against the big bad". It makes sense to not want to draw it or figure out how to go about it but whatever I guess. Left me a bit unsatisfied. For the other gripe, it's likely my own fault, I did rush reading it a bit but I choose to believe the pacing and lack of time to explore the ideas left me confused on what was trying to be talked about. Sure this would really just boil down to my own literary comprehension but I do really wish we saw more of, well, everything.
The art truly makes up for everything I have against this, it is more often than not, fantastic. The detail is insane along with the style itself, it is just so enjoyable to look at. However.... at times its hard to understand what exactly is trying to be portrayed and the fights can be hard to follow (not that I'm reading this for the fights).
Overall I would definitely recommend reading this if you like weird, out there ideas and concepts (but nothing too insanely deep) and insane art. Its far from the greatest thing ever, albeit not that close to being great either, but its MUCH further from being bad in any way. Really fun and quick read, worth your time.
