| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- I'm really glad that I stumbled over this OVA. The beginning with the time slip, which is extremely unsual for such a kind of story might seem random at first, but it's a unique and cool premise overall. The protagonist has to deal with a lot of different stuff while trying to fix his life, which made the 50 minutes literally feel like 20. And as far as I can tell, they did a good job at keeping things real, at least for an anime. And I love the rough old school flair, great watch so far. |

| Very cool, gritty, atmospheric OVA. Thr MC is a little rough but also human and a piece of a greater network that he has only some control over. This was about learning what we can control and how to do it within such a society. Despite the time slip, everything else was very realistic; there are serious consequences for betrayal, cowardice, aggression, etc. One thing: this was maybe a little too long. I really, really like it, but there's this back-and-forth money and badge selling thing. I also started this and then had a very busy month before I could come back to it, so I'm sure that didn't help. Anyway, I'm excited for the next one! |
| - The length is just fine. It barely felt like 50 minutes. The pacing works well, and it actually uses humour effectively compared to other yakuza OVAs I’ve seen. A lot of them struggle to balance gritty themes with comedy. - I was expecting the result of horse racing to change because he didn't go out with his future wife. - I still like the fact that cowardice still lingers inside him, which he tries to mask with the fact that he already died once (in a pathetic & comedic way). If he dies again, at least it won’t be that embarrassing. |

| What a interesting mix. Time traveling usually has weak and pathetic protagonist (so as to be appealing to such people in real life lol), but surprisingly Joshie is not like that. He is a strong, outgoing character that endures pain, and only shies away at life threatening situations, which wouldn't be that bad if he wasn't living as a yakuza. His only flaw is that he continues living such an awful life despite receiving the ultimate consequence for it, not very smart imo :P I don't like how the time traveling element is used. Leaving it unexplained is fine, but I would've liked to see more of his first life before doing a sudden jump between the beginning to the end, and then back to the beginning once more. So now, when he comes to a decisive moment in his life he goes "oh I remember this, I'm going to do something different now!" and then he takes the correct decision on (what seems to us) his first try. Its a less effective method for story telling, and as a viewer I don't feel much satisfaction from his wins *shrugs* but is still fun to watch. |
