Joking aside, this movie really surprised me in several ways. I think it's easily one of the most different films within the Dragon Ball universe that still manages to be very good. Tapion's aesthetic delivers this feeling right away: it has that visual style that directly recalls Chrono Trigger, and not only in appearance, but also in the overall atmosphere it brings to the film. At the same time, the movie embraces an atmosphere that strongly resembles The Legend of Zelda. The presence of the ocarina as an essential item, almost a weapon, almost a mystical instrument,

is a reference that's hard to ignore. For those who grew up watching Link saving Hyrule to the sound of magical melodies, the comparison is inevitable.
The animation is another strong point. For its time, it's exceptional, with fluidity and detail that stand out even within the standards of Dragon Ball Z. The movements are expressive, the set design is meticulous, and despite external inspirations, the visual identity of DBZ is there all the time, stamped on every blow, expression, and transformation. It's the kind of film that, even though it's different, never lets you forget where it came from.
Tapion, without a doubt, is a very well-written character. Even with little screen time, he manages to convey an emotional intensity that few Dragon Ball movie characters achieve. His melancholic air, his sense of duty, and his tragic past make him someone you understand, respect, and want to follow more. He has a strong and charismatic presence that quickly wins over the viewer. It's a shame he doesn't have more appearances in the canonical universe, because he clearly had the potential to be explored further.
The idea behind the final antagonist is also excellent. The villain has an interesting construction, with a dark and powerful premise, and visually he is imposing. He delivers much of what is expected, especially as a physical threat and as a dramatic conclusion to Tapion's story. However, there's still a feeling that he lacked a bit more "awareness" or personality to make him truly memorable. If there had been more intention, more explicit malice, more intelligence in his actions, he could easily have been one of the best antagonists in the franchise. The foundation was great; it just needed a little more polishing.
Even so, the film is responsible for one of the most memorable moments for many fans: the first appearance of Goku's Dragon Fist. A visually impactful, emotionally charged technique that perfectly matched the film's theme. It's the kind of scene that sticks in your memory and alone justifies a good part of the affection many people have for this work.
In the end, the story as a whole is very good. It brings different ideas, a darker and more emotional tone, a well-constructed lore, and truly memorable scenes. It's one of those films that deviates from the standard formula, but does so in a way that works. My final score is a 7. It was a fun and interesting experience to watch, something that adds a unique layer to the Dragon Ball universe. My score wasn't higher only because, despite the good premise, the final villain didn't deliver everything he could have. With a little more depth and presence, this film could easily have reached a higher level.

Brincadeiras à parte, esse filme realmente me surpreendeu em vários aspectos. Acho que é, facilmente, um dos filmes mais diferentes dentro do universo de Dragon Ball que ainda consegue ser muito bom. A estética do Tapion já entrega essa sensação logo de cara: ele tem aquele visual que remete diretamente a Chrono Trigger, e não só na aparência, mas também no clima geral que ele traz para o filme. Ao mesmo tempo, o longa abraça uma atmosfera que lembra bastante The Legend of Zelda. A presença da ocarina como um item essencial, quase uma arma, quase um instrumento místico é uma referência difícil de ignorar. Para quem cresceu vendo Link salvando Hyrule ao som de melodias mágicas, a comparação é inevitável.
A animação é outro ponto forte. Para a época, ela é excepcional, com fluidez e detalhamento que se destacam mesmo dentro dos padrões de Dragon Ball Z. Os movimentos são expressivos, o design dos cenários é caprichado e, apesar das inspirações externas, a identidade visual de DBZ está ali o tempo todo, estampada em cada golpe, expressão e transformação. É aquele tipo de filme que, mesmo sendo diferente, nunca deixa você esquecer de onde ele veio.
Tapion, sem dúvida, é um personagem muito bem escrito. Mesmo com pouco tempo de tela, ele consegue passar uma intensidade emocional que poucos personagens de filmes de Dragon Ball alcançam. Seu ar melancólico, seu senso de dever e seu passado trágico fazem dele alguém que você entende, respeita e quer acompanhar mais. Ele tem uma presença forte e carismática, que conquista o espectador rapidamente. É uma pena que ele não tenha mais participações no universo canônico, porque claramente tinha potencial para ser mais explorado.
A ideia por trás do antagonista final também é excelente. O vilão tem uma construção interessante, com uma premissa sombria e poderosa, e visualmente ele é imponente. Ele entrega muito do que se espera, especialmente como ameaça física e como desfecho dramático para a história do Tapion. No entanto, ainda fica a sensação de que faltou um pouco mais de “consciência” ou personalidade para torná-lo realmente marcante. Se houvesse mais intenção, mais maldade explícita, mais inteligência na forma como age, ele poderia ter sido facilmente um dos melhores antagonistas da franquia. A base era ótima; só faltou lapidar um pouco mais.
Mesmo assim, o filme é responsável por um dos momentos mais lembrados por muitos fãs: a primeira aparição do Golpe do Dragão de Goku. Uma técnica visualmente impactante, emocionalmente carregada e que combinou perfeitamente com o tema do filme. É o tipo de cena que fica gravada na memória e que justifica sozinho uma boa parte do carinho que muita gente tem por essa obra.
No fim das contas, a história como um todo é muito boa. Ela traz ideias diferentes, um tom mais sombrio e emocional, uma lore bem construída e cenas realmente marcantes. É um daqueles filmes que fogem da fórmula padrão, mas fazem isso de um jeito que funciona. Minha nota final é um 7. Foi uma experiência divertida e interessante de assistir, algo que acrescenta uma camada única ao universo de Dragon Ball. Minha nota só não foi maior porque, apesar de toda a boa premissa, o vilão final não entregou tudo que poderia ter entregado. Com um pouco mais de profundidade e presença, esse filme poderia facilmente subir de patamar.
