Douse, Koishite Shimaunda. 2nd Season

As seasons have passed, Mizuho Nishino's adolescence has been full of ups and downs. With Christmas approaching, she intends to celebrate the special event with all of her four childhood friends: Kizuki Hazawa, Shin Kashiwagi, Airu Izumi, and Shuugo Hoshikawa. However, Kizuki makes the first move when he declares that he wants to spend the time alone with Mizuho. Although hesitant at first, Mizuho ends up confiding in him and declares Kizuki to be her boyfriend!

The news about Mizuho and Kizuki spreads quickly and brings forth Shin and Airu, who have had a difficult time accepting their feelings for the one they love. With the friend group faced with a delicate situation they have never confronted before, only time will tell if the new romance and old friendships can survive.

I finished both seasons in 2 days, could make it in one, but, you know, I need to work sometimes :)
So, I found this anime very addictive, I couldn’t stop watching – I wanted to know what will happen. I liked it very much, although I am not a teenager anymore – I am an adult European woman in her 40-s. This show is nostalgia about the past, when we were young, had amazing friendships and fell in love for the first time. The main heroine is naïve, dreamy and simple – just like the boy who chose her. And I totally agree that they ... should be together. Some said that Shin could be a better partner for Mizuho, but I don’t agree. Shin is obsessed with her just because she liked someone else. He was with other women while “suffering” that Mizuho is not with him. He has an abusive character and he would only make Mizuho unhappy if she stayed with him. As for the flaws – I would prefer more “couple time” for Mizuho and Kizuki, more intimate moments after they reunited. The situation when he first appeared before her after 3 years of silence was kind of unreal to me. I would expect that Mizuho immediately demand the explanation, at least for her sake - just to know if she should keep loving him or stop it. And then go away. Because that what would happen in real life: you ask for answers and then let yourself think about what to do next.
I would assume that the other two friends could make a good gay couple – designer and chef. Their relationship to Mizuho wasn’t that strong (despite the will of the author to show the opposite) and they really were good friends than lovers.
I gave 8 and recommend the show.

Mixed Feelings

After finishing all the anime I wanted this season, Crunchyroll still reccomended me to continue with the series so that's why I gave this season a second chance.

To be honest, it's not as bad as the first... but I was still looking for places to watch it at 2x speed. Airu and Shugo's stories are good, hence the 6, but the main trio... seriously? Who in their life wants a Kizuki???????! What he did is unforgivable in real life, at least not so easily.

Aside from that, I do like the nostalgic vibes it tries to give off. I guess it resonates with me ... because it reminds me of my high school sweetheart (who I'm still with) and the good years/times we shared.

I should preface my review by admitting that I am one hundred percent the wrong target audience. And if you liked this, I am happy for you. But, objectively speaking, I absolutely hated every single second of watching "Anyway, I'm Falling in Love with You." Truth be told, I am sort of baffled that this even got a second season in the first place when the first installment was already kind of bad in my opinion. But this second season truly did its best to make my watching experience absolutely miserable. And me being the completionist that I am, I wanted to give it a ... second chance. I thought it could not sink lower than the first season. It turns out that I was very wrong.

The timeline is all over the place. The plot keeps jumping between past and present without warning. This makes it almost impossible to concentrate on what is going on. Everything is so wishy washy and ambiguous on purpose to make it feel mysterious, but it just ends up being hard to follow and confusing. There is incredibly ridiculous drama that got an eye roll out of me at best. Most of the time, the drama feels shoehorned in because the plot of the anime cannot carry the story on its own. Oh no, someone fell down the stairs. Are they going to be fine? Yup. The next episode shows that almost nothing happened. One hospital visit later and the characters in question are in top condition. The choices the characters make are, quite frankly, baffling and incredibly frustrating. You mean to tell me Kizuki ghosted his loving girlfriend and disappeared from her life for two years because he was injured? And he cannot be there for his girlfriend because he cannot swim? I am trying to make it make sense, but I just cannot. It genuinely made me mad because nobody in their right mind would do this.

The anime then makes a whole thing about who is going to end up winning our main heroine’s heart, only for her to turn around and make the most nonsensical choice ever. For the sake of spoilers, I am not going to say what exactly, but if you have seen it, you will know what I mean. It is the most obvious choice ever. There are no consequences for anything, and you can probably guess what I mean by that. What was the point of this entire second season if the endgame was going to be the same? It is all so frustrating. All the drama, all the twists, just did not matter. The interactions between our main character and her love interests are cheesy as hell, which is not inherently a bad thing, and I do think it can work, particularly in romances. But here? With me being completely checked out, it just annoyed me. I disliked every single character. Mizuho, the main character, has no real character traits. I could not even explain who she is or what she does. In this season, all she is is the sad girl pining for Kizuki to return to her life. She just goes along with whatever the other guys want from her. She is not assertive and does not have any real opinions. And in the end, she needs a push from one of the rejected guys to make her final choice which was obvious to anyone watching.

Now, I do not want to step on anyone’s toes here, but objectively speaking, the anime also does not look good. The animation is incredibly simplistic, and almost all of the background characters are just silhouettes filled with white dots, which feels lifeless. There is no passion or heart in this project. It all feels empty, and it absolutely sucked the joy out of me. On top of that, the anime uses a super bright filter that makes everything even worse to look at. I also did not like the character designs or anything of that sort. It felt like a slog to get through this mess, and I regret trying to give it a second chance. I did not want to go any lower with my rating out of respect for the effort involved, but "Anyway, I'm Falling in Love with You" is honestly among the worst anime I have ever seen. And I would not recommend it whatsoever.
