New Interest Stack
Interest Stacks  This is a collection of graduation projects, museum/art gallery films, and other experimental shorts. They generally don't contain any dialogue, and they're more focused around presenting artistic ability or sending a message than what most anime set out to do. They're generally all created by a single person, maybe a couple assistants, but not a big team. Commercial success isn't a driving factor in the creation of these shorts. Because experimental directors have recognizable styles I tried to avoid listing too many from any individual director. I think these are interesting to watch because they help show what anime can be.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collage   This is a compilation of Avante-Garde shorts that are unique, mind-blowing and addicting. These will give you a different POV on the world of animation.  Cutout animation is a form of stop-motion animation usually made with paper or fabric cutouts. The technique was especially popular in Japanese animation before 1934 because cel animation used to be too expensive. Therefore pioneers of anime such as Noburou Oofuji and Yasuji Murata often used cutouts. Silhouette animation is considered a subgenre with its history going back to shadow plays. It is included in a separate stack. |
